A number of taxis and private hire vehicles were stopped and inspected in a recent joint safety operation carried out by Aberdeenshire Council Licensing Standards and Police Scotland.
The operation took place at targeted locations in Inverurie, Kintore and Stonehaven. It focused on road safety and compliance with licensing regulations.
Licensing officers and roads policing teams carried out vehicle inspections, checked driver credentials and ensured that licensing conditions were being met. Advice was given where required and enforcement action taken where necessary.
Vehicles were checked for roadworthiness and correct licensing documentation. Officers also looked at driving standards and compliance with road traffic laws.
No offences or significant issues were found, although a small number of minor contraventions were addressed at the scene.
Keith Simpson, Aberdeenshire Council’s Senior Licensing Standards Officer, said: “This initiative supports our shared commitment to keeping passengers safe and maintaining high standards in the local taxi industry. The joint operation highlights our pro-active approach to ensuring taxi services in Aberdeenshire are safe, reliable and fully compliant with the law.”
Daniel Baird, Roads Policing Officer, said: “Public safety is our top priority and these important checks help us identify and address any issues before they pose a risk to passengers or other road users. Fortunately, the vast majority of taxi and private hire drivers do operate safely and we really do appreciate the support and cooperation we get from the trade not only during such operations but throughout the year.”
