Teen arrested after Edinburgh car chase ends in crash with black taxi

A stolen vehicle chase in Edinburgh concluded dramatically on Wednesday evening, resulting in a pedestrian being injured and the vehicle crashing into a black cab.


According to Police Scotland, the incident began at 7.50pm when officers spotted a stolen vehicle in the West Port area. The vehicle failed to stop, prompting a brief pursuit through Lady Lawson Street towards Lothian Road, which was abandoned due to safety concerns.

Shortly after, the vehicle struck a female pedestrian on Princes Street before crashing into taxi on South Saint David Street. The pedestrian was promptly taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by emergency services. Fortunately, the driver of the other vehicle was unharmed.


The suspect, a 17-year-old male, was apprehended on Market Street following a brief foot chase. He has been charged with road traffic offences and released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.

The crash led to the closure of one lane near the Scott Monument on Princes Street for around three hours, causing notable disruption to public transport.


Police Scotland expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance in apprehending the suspect.


A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "We would like to thank members of the public who assisted officers in tracing the male.”
