TfL release taxi driver guidance for cabbies planning to work 2025 Wimbledon Championships

Transport for London (TfL) has released updated guidance for taxi and private hire vehicle (PHV) licensees ahead of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club event will take place from Monday 30 June to Sunday 13 July. It is expected to welcome up to 42,000 spectators each day. With high demand for transport, licensed taxis and PHVs are encouraged to assist with the movement of attendees to and from the tournament.

TfL has detailed the pick-up and drop-off arrangements as well as temporary taxi rank provisions. Drivers are reminded to avoid stopping or parking where it is not permitted. Enforcement will be in place throughout the event.

Fixed-fare shared taxi services will again operate between the AELTC grounds and Wimbledon or Southfields stations. Fares are set at £3.50 for adults and £1.75 for children aged 2–10. Children under 2 can travel free. Details on fares to other destinations are covered in TfL’s TPH Notice 01/25 and 03/23.

Temporary taxi ranks will be active at key points:

  • Southfields Station: A temporary rank will be on Augustus Road (Rank 5639). The regular rank outside the station (Rank 5619) will not operate.

  • Wimbledon Station: The existing taxi rank (Rank 6099) will continue service and support fixed-fare trips to AELTC.

  • Wimbledon Park Road: A new rank (Rank 6225) will be north of the Victoria Drive junction, operating from 15:00 with a 10-taxi limit.

  • Somerset Road near AELTC Gate 11: Another temporary rank (Rank 6226) will also operate from 15:00, with space for 14 taxis and a separate 4-taxi feeder area managed by marshals.

Pre-booked taxis are to collect passengers on Marryat Road. Church Road between AELTC Gates 1 and 5 will be fully closed to vehicles, except for emergency services.

All taxis in operation must be available for hire. Vehicles must not be left unattended on ranks. Meters must be started at the beginning of each fixed-fare journey, and fares should not exceed the metered rate. Drivers must not loiter in search of shared trips or refuse solo hires without just cause, as this could result in licensing action.

Eligible taxi drivers from All London, Merton and Sutton (Sector 6), as well as Hounslow, Kingston and Richmond (Sector 7), may use designated ranks during the Championships.
