Tonbridge private hire driver keeps licence after complaint over driving standards

A private hire driver in Tonbridge and Malling has retained their licence after councillors reviewed a complaint from a member of the public alleging poor driving while the driver was operating a licensed vehicle.
The case was heard by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s Licensing and Appeals Panel on 27 May. The panel met in private because the matter involved personal information relating to an individual.
Councillors considered the complaint alongside the driver’s account of the incident and reviewed related video recordings before reaching their decision.
The panel concluded that no formal action should be taken against the driver’s private hire licence. However, members advised the licence holder “to drive more carefully, slow down and not undertake”.
The outcome means the driver remains licensed, with the panel determining that the circumstances did not warrant regulatory action beyond issuing advice on future driving standards.
