London’s black cab trade has been handed an unexpected boost after His Excellency Turki Alalshikh allocated 2,000 complimentary tickets for today’s huge Eubank Jnr v Benn boxing event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and the Saudi Boxing Federation has directed the tickets to working cab drivers as a recognition of the part they play across the capital. The gesture covers the high-profile clash between Chris Eubank Jnr and Conor Benn, one of the biggest fights to land in London this year.
Drivers were told they can claim two tickets each through an online link. Allocation operates on a first come basis. Those claiming are asked to use the tickets for attendance to ensure the entire batch benefits the trade.
Alongside the complimentary entry, a digital special edition of Ring Magazine is being offered for drivers to download.
Trade representatives have expressed their thanks for the gesture, saying it reflects the value placed on the work cabbies carry out every day. The timing is expected to give many drivers a rare chance to step away from the tight schedules of the job and take in a major sporting occasion.
Today’s meeting between Chris Eubank Jnr and Conor Benn is set to be one of the most talked about boxing nights of the year. The contest brings together two fighters whose family names shaped British boxing in the 1990s, giving this modern bout an added layer of interest for long-time followers of the sport.
