TWO OUT-OF-AREA PHVs SUSPENDED: 46 Wolverhampton private hire vehicles checked during Manchester Victoria operation

Licensing enforcement officers from City of Wolverhampton Council joined police and immigration authorities in a joint operation targeting taxi and private hire vehicles in Manchester.
The coordinated effort on Saturday night included checks at Manchester Victoria Station. Officers worked alongside British Transport Police North West, Greater Manchester Police City Centre team, as well as licensing teams from Sefton and Salford Councils, and Immigration Enforcement.
A total of 46 vehicles licensed by Wolverhampton Council were stopped and inspected during the operation. Two were found to be in breach of licensing rules. One vehicle was suspended for displaying no front registration plate, while another was taken off the road due to a dangerously damaged alloy wheel.
The operation formed part of wider efforts to ensure vehicle and driver safety for passengers travelling from key transport hubs late at night.
A Public Protection spokesperson from City of Wolverhampton Council said the checks were aimed at ensuring public safety.
A City of Wolverhampton council Public Protection spokesperson said: “On Saturday night, Compliance Officers had a successful joint operation at Manchester Piccadilly Station with British Transport Police North West, Greater Manchester Police City Centre and Licensing colleagues from Sefton Council and Salford Council, and Immigration Enforcement. Working together to ensure everyone gets home safe.
“Officers also covered Manchester Victoria Station. A total of 46 City of Wolverhampton Council vehicles were checked on the night. 2 had their licences suspended, 1 for no front registration plate and 1 for a dangerously damaged alloy wheel.”
