Two out-of-town private hire drivers caught illegally plying for hire by Liverpool City Council

Two drivers, both licensed by authorities outside of Liverpool City, have been caught illegally plying for hire by licensing enforcement officers.

Both incidents happened on Saturday 7 March, during a night of checks.

One driver reported was a Wolverhampton plated private hire driver and the other was licensed by Sefton Council.

Both drivers will now face prosecution, which could come with a large fine and points added on their driving licence for operating without valid insurance.

Only hackney carriage licensed taxi drivers are permitted to pick up passengers who have not pre-booked through a licensed operator.

If a private hire driver accepts a fare that hasn't been pre-booked, their hire and reward insurance becomes void.
