TAXI FOR TWO: Two vehicles seized by police after alleged high-speed racing in Merseyside

Two vehicles have been seized by Merseyside Police after roads policing officers reported witnessing them being driven at high speed and racing each other.

The force’s Roads Policing Unit said officers managed to stop both vehicles following the incident. An image released by police shows the vehicles stopped at the roadside at night with a marked police car nearby.

Police said: “These two vehicles were seen at high speed and racing each other. RPU got both vehicles stopped and they were seized Section 59.”

Section 59 powers under the Police Reform Act 2002 can be used against vehicles associated with anti-social use, including driving that causes, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress or annoyance. The legislation provides police with powers to seize vehicles in qualifying circumstances.
