UBER LOCAL CAB: EIGHT new operators spread across England join the Uber platform
Uber has today announced that it is extending Local Cab in EIGHT new towns and cities spread across England, enabling passengers to book trips with an additional local operator via the Uber app.
Anyone opening the Uber app in the areas like Oxford, Derby and Halifax can select the Local Cab option. Local Cab trips are booked directly with local operators, and all subsequent customer support is provided by them.
Since the company’s pilot of Local Cab last year, the product has launched in over 60 locations across the UK.
The eight newest addictions include:
Value Cars, Basildon
Metro Cars, Harlow
PJ Cars, Derby
Brian's Taxis, Rushden
Bens Private Hire, Keighley
Royal Cars, Oxford
Crossley's Cars, Halifax
Associated Taxis, Bishop's Stortford.
Niaz Mohammed, Director at Oxford’s Royal Cars, said: “We look forward to making Local Cab available to more people across Oxford. We feel that now, more than ever, a product like Local Cab is needed – with demand for taxis continuing to rise and passengers in need of more options.”
Andrew Brem, General Manager at Uber UK, commented on the Oxford launch: “Oxford is one of a growing number of towns and cities in England where riders can access both UberX and Local Cab in the same app. This will help maximise earnings opportunities for drivers while giving passengers in Oxford more choice, meaning that everyone will benefit. We’re looking forward to extending Local Cab in more UK towns and cities soon."
