A Southampton taxi driver has been reported by Hampshire Police after officers witnessed multiple driving offences at a roundabout in Eastleigh.
The incident occurred on Thursday 3 August when officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were carrying out routine patrols. Acting Police Sergeant James was accompanied by Police Community Support Officers Tom and Jacob when they saw the taxi performing a dangerous manoeuvre at a roundabout used frequently by local motorists.
According to Eastleigh Police, the officers observed the taxi driver not only carrying out a risky move but also using a mobile phone at the same time. Further inspection revealed the driver was also not wearing a seatbelt.
In a statement on social media, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Eastleigh Police said: “Whilst out on patrol today, A/PS James along with PCSO Tom and PCSO Jacob noted a vehicle undertaking, a highly dangerous manoeuvre on a busy roundabout. To make matters worse the driver was using their mobile phone and not wearing a seatbelt.”
Police confirmed that the taxi driver was immediately stopped and reported for the offences of using a mobile phone whilst driving and failing to wear a seatbelt. Officers provided additional words of advice regarding the dangerous driving manoeuvre.
