Gardaí in Cork City have seized a taxi operating illegally.

Officers responded to reports that the vehicle lacked a Transport for Ireland licence, which is required for all taxis in Ireland.

Upon locating the vehicle, displaying Uber livery, further checks revealed the situation to be more serious.

The taxi had neither insurance nor a valid National Car Test (NCT) certificate. Both documents are mandatory for all vehicles on Irish roads to ensure roadworthiness and coverage in the event of an incident.

Authorities acted swiftly by seizing the vehicle. The driver, who now faces several serious charges, will be required to attend court.

A Garda Traffic spokesperson said on social media: “Gardaí in Cork City received a report of a taxi operating without its Transport for Ireland licence.

“When they tracked down the vehicle they also discovered that it had no insurance or valid NCT.

“The vehicle was seized and the driver will be expected in court.”
