Veezu has introduced a 20p per journey fuel price relief scheme for its driver-partners across the UK, effective from 17 April 2026, as operators respond to ongoing cost pressures in the private hire sector.
The company said the measure will be funded through a 20p increase in passenger fares, with the full amount passed directly to drivers. The scheme is expected to generate an additional £250 to £350 per year for the average driver-partner, according to Veezu.
The initiative targets thousands of self-employed drivers operating within Veezu’s national network. The firm highlighted the importance of maintaining driver supply, particularly as private hire vehicle services often provide the only round-the-clock transport option in rural and underserved areas.
Veezu said it will “continue to monitor fuel price movements and periodically review the relief”, indicating the scheme could be adjusted depending on market conditions. The business is also calling on the UK Government to extend the current fuel duty cut, which is due to expire in September.

The move reflects wider industry concerns over fuel affordability and driver retention, with operators under pressure to balance fare levels against driver earnings and passenger demand.
Founded in Wales in 2013, Veezu has expanded to operate in hundreds of towns and cities, completing more than 25 million journeys annually and holding licences with 63 local authorities across England and Wales.
Nathan Bowles, CEO of Veezu, said: "From the very beginning, our goal has been to build a truly national network that provides self-employed driver-partners with earning potential, delivers safe and reliable journeys for passengers and supports growth across the wider economy.
“With fuel prices at their highest in years, the impact on operating costs for anyone running a petrol or diesel vehicle is significant. This fuel price relief is intended to helpoffset those pressures for driver-partners operating across the Veezu network and help keep local communities across the UK moving.
“As a company, we are keen to do our bit to support self-employed driver partners and the wider economy, and are also calling on the government to extend fuel duty relief beyond the September deadline.”
