Volvo has introduced a Black Edition variant of its all-electric EX30 compact SUV, adding a new premium styling option to a model that was among the UK’s top ten best-selling battery electric vehicles in 2025.
Announced on 13 February, the Black Edition is available to order now across Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor Performance configurations, with prices starting from £40,060 in Single Motor Plus trim. The launch adds further choice to operators assessing electric SUVs for taxi and private hire use, particularly those targeting executive or premium segments.
The Black Edition brings a series of exterior and interior design changes to the standard EX30. Styling updates include high gloss black 19-inch wheels, tinted rear windows and black detailing across the front grille strikethrough, iron mark, rear script and model badge. The roof spoiler and door mirror covers are also finished in coordinated gloss black.
The variant is offered exclusively in Onyx Black metallic paint, paired with a unique Indigo interior colourway featuring studio-inspired textile materials and upcycled denim trim. For operators, the darker exterior and interior specification may prove attractive for executive airport transfers and corporate contracts where vehicle presentation plays a commercial role.

From an operational perspective, the EX30 Black Edition retains the core technical features of the standard model. Volvo states that the vehicle offers a combined range of up to 295.2 miles in Single Motor Extended Range form, with 0-62 mph acceleration in 5.3 seconds. A heat pump is fitted as standard to help maximise range between charges, a feature likely to be relevant for high-mileage drivers seeking to manage energy efficiency during colder months.
Driver assistance and safety systems remain a central part of the package. The Black Edition includes Volvo’s advanced sensing technology, with up to five radars, five cameras and twelve ultrasonic sensors monitoring the vehicle’s surroundings. Adaptive cruise control and a powered tailgate are also included, alongside a 12.3-inch centre display and air quality measurement with remote cabin air pre-cleaning.
For taxi and private hire drivers, particularly those working under local authority licensing conditions that increasingly favour low and zero emission vehicles, the EX30’s electric powertrain and safety credentials may align with fleet decarbonisation strategies. The model was the UK’s tenth best-selling battery electric vehicle in 2025, reflecting broader growth in EV adoption across both private and commercial segments.
Rob Deane, Commercial Operations Director at Volvo Car UK, said: “The Black Edition variants of our models have struck a chord with buyers in the past and the EX30 looks really striking with the design additions, giving it even more presence. We are really pleased to offer the Black Edition of our compact premium SUV to customers in the UK.”
The EX30 becomes the latest addition to Volvo’s expanding Black Edition line-up, which now spans six models including XC90, XC60, XC40, EX40 and EC40. The strategy mirrors a wider industry trend of manufacturers offering factory-backed styling packages to capture higher-margin retail and fleet demand without altering core mechanical specifications.
For taxi and private hire drivers weighing vehicle lifecycle costs against brand perception and passenger experience, the EX30 Black Edition presents an additional specification choice within Volvo’s electric portfolio. While pricing places it toward the upper end of mainstream fleet budgets, its range, standard heat pump and advanced safety systems may support its case in urban and intercity operations where reliability, image and compliance remain central considerations.
