A joint enforcement operation in Warrington town centre has resulted in multiple taxi and private hire compliance actions, including a vehicle suspension and driver referral, as police and council officers targeted safety risks in the night-time economy.

According to Warrington Police, officers carried out patrols on Saturday evening as part of Operation Brooklyn, an initiative focused on reducing drug-related activity and safeguarding vulnerable people in busy nightlife settings.

Specially trained drugs dogs were deployed across streets and licensed premises, where officers engaged with businesses, door staff and members of the public. During the operation, numerous individuals were searched, leading to the seizure of various illegal substances. Police confirmed that enforcement action was taken against those found in possession.

Alongside the policing activity, a coordinated taxi licensing operation was conducted involving Warrington Borough Council and Wolverhampton Council. The collaboration reflects ongoing cross-border efforts between licensing authorities to monitor compliance standards among taxi and private hire vehicles operating in busy urban areas.

During the checks, multiple taxis were inspected making sure they met licensing conditions and vehicle safety requirements. One vehicle was immediately suspended due to an engine management issue, highlighting concerns around roadworthiness and passenger safety.

In addition, two vehicles were issued with defect notices requiring remedial action, while one driver has been referred for a conduct review. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the nature of the conduct concerns.

Warrington Police stated that the initiative demonstrates the value of joint working between enforcement agencies, combining public safety priorities with regulatory oversight of the licensed transport sector.
