London taxi drivers are being warned over increased enforcement at the box junction connecting Piccadilly and Arlington Street in Westminster, following reports of a rise in penalty charge notices being issued at the location.
A well-known figure in the licensed taxi trade who assists drivers with PCN appeals, highlighted the issue in a social media post viewed widely among cabbies this week. She claimed the junction is “being heavily enforced” by Westminster City Council, with “numerous PCNs being sent out to those turning left out of Arlington St”.
Hrawli advised drivers to ensure their exit is clear before entering the yellow box, although she noted that a closed lane at the junction is making compliance difficult for some motorists. Her post stated: “Wait until your exit is clear before you turn left. Although the closed lane making it impossible.”
The junction sits on a busy route used frequently by licensed taxis operating through central London, particularly around Green Park, Piccadilly and Mayfair. Increased camera enforcement at box junctions has become a growing operational concern for taxi and private hire drivers facing rising running costs and tighter road restrictions across the capital.

Under London traffic regulations, drivers can enter a box junction only if their exit road or lane is clear, with enforcement cameras used by borough councils to issue PCNs remotely. Appeals are possible where motorists believe signage, road conditions or traffic management contributed to the contravention.
