City of Wolverhampton Council has confirmed that all of its licensed private hire vehicles inspected during a joint compliance operation in Hull were found to be safe and roadworthy.
The checks were carried out by Wolverhampton Council Public Protection officers working alongside Hull City Council Licensing and Humberside Police. The operation focused on Wolverhampton licensed vehicles operating in Hull, an area that has seen increasing levels of out of area private hire activity.
According to a statement published by WV Public Protection on social media, every Wolverhampton licensed PHV examined during the operation met the required safety and compliance standards, with no enforcement action required.
Cross border compliance activity has become more frequent as local authorities and police forces respond to concerns around vehicle standards, driver licensing and regulatory oversight linked to out of area working. Wolverhampton is one of the UK’s largest private hire licensing authorities, with vehicles operating nationwide.
Joint enforcement operation with Humberside Police and Hull City Council finds no safety or roadworthiness issues
The council did not disclose how many vehicles were stopped or the duration of the operation. No issues were reported with vehicle condition, documentation or licensing status.
The outcome is likely to be closely watched by licensing authorities and operators amid ongoing scrutiny of enforcement consistency and regulatory capacity across the private hire sector.
A WV Public Protection spokesperson said: “Yesterday, compliance were working with colleagues from Hull City Council Licensing and Humberside Police checking licensed vehicles in Hull. All City of Wolverhampton Council PHVs found to be safe and roadworthy.”
