Tragic end to Welsh taxi journey

An inquest heard this week how a woman with ME took her own life after a 130 mile taxi journey from Swansea to Wrexham.

Cheryl Schaverein, 64, from Sketty in Swansea, leapt to her death from an aquaduct in  Pontcysyllte, Wrexham.

Wales Online reported that the inquest in Ruthin heard how Mrs Schaverein lost both her sister and her father through suicide. 

A statement from the taxi driver described how Mrs Schaverein paid for her journey in advance,  after arriving at their destination they took a ride on the canal. Mrs Schaverein then asked the taxi driver to hold her bag as she walked across the aquaduct. It was thrn a few minutes later that he had discovered that Mrs Schaverein had leapt to her death.

Coroner John Gittins recorded a conclusion that Mrs Schaverein had committed suicide.
