Police appeal: Taxi driver left laying helpless in road after brutal attack in South London

Perry Richardson

Police have released e-fits of two men they would like to speak to in relation to a brutal attack which left a cab driver laying in the middle of the street in Lower Sydenham, South London.

A dispute over the fare led to one of his passengers attacking him. At the scene, two more men joined in, kicking the 55 year old driver in the head while he laid on the floor.

The assault took place on March 4, at around 10:30pm, outside The Prince Of Wales pub on Perry Rise.

An appeal has been launched today, December 8. Detective Constable, Emily Earl, of Lewisham CID, said:

"This was a brutal and unprovoked assault on an innocent cab driver, which resulted in him not being able to work for months.

“It is believed that these men are local to the area and may even reside near to where the assault took place.”

DC Earl added: "The e-fit images shows two of the attackers, the first is of a younger man with dark hair. He was one of the passengers collected from Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium.

“The second image is of an older man. He is believed to have joined in the attack outside the pub.” Anybody who may be able to identify the men from the e-fit images, or who has information about the attack, should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
