Cabbies makeshift fuel cap lands him in hot water

A taxi driver has been issued with a 24 week suspension after DVSA officers,  carrying out routine spot-checks, discovered that the cabbie had used a Costa coffee cup as a fuel cap.

DVSA officers, along with West Midland police officers, also found other faults on the taxi such as faulty headlamps and tyres that were close to their legal limit.

The makeshift fuel cap was drenched in diesel and deemed to be highly dangerous to both the cabbie and other road users.

Sandwell Councils, Elaine Costigan said: “Generally we see very good standards of vehicle maintenance when we make these checks – it’s rare to see something quite this irresponsible.”
