Private hire car smashes into gates of Buckingham Palace

A London private hire vehicle smashed into the gates of Buckingham Palace late on Saturday night much to the shock of onlookers.

A Toyota Prius clearly displaying the Transport for London minicab roundel was captured on video surrounded by police in what is being described as a “road traffic collision” by police sources.

The vehicle registration also confirms the car as a TfL private hire registered vehicle according to the regulators own online licence checker.

BBC reporter Jon Ironmonger took to Twitter to post the short video showing the hapless driver at the perimeter gates of the palace.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

“Police were called to Spur Road, SW1A at 22:49hrs on Saturday, 3 March after a car was involved in a collision with street railings.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. “There are no reported injuries and the driver is out of the vehicle and being spoken to by police. No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue.

“This incident is being treated as a road traffic collision.”
