Sheffield grant Uber new five year licence

After months of uncertainty Sheffield City Council today decided to renew Uber’s operators licence unconditionally for five years according to trade sources.

Lee Ward of Alpha announced via Twitter “I wish to apologise for failing in my attempts. Uber are licensed for 5 years in Sheffield with no conditions.”

The council originally took action against the controversial minicab firm last year and suspended them from the city after failing to respond to requests in relation to its licence. Uber responded by saying the correspondence had been sent to an incorrect address. The council soon scraped the suspension in December after what they described as "productive discussions" and "satisfactory replies" from Uber.  However, speculation had been mounting with Uber’s licence renewal today.
