Cabbie keeps licence after accruing 18 points

A Chelmsford taxi driver was this week allowed to retain his taxi licence, after a clerical error caused him to accrue 18 points on his driving licence.

The unamed cabbie obtained the points after allegedly failing to pass on driver details pertaining to three seperate driving offences committed by drivers of vehicles that were in his company's ownership.

It was successfully argued by the anonymous drivers legal representative, that the cabbie, had in fact, passed on the penalty notices to a third party to process. It was claimed that the third party had failed to process the details, which subsequently left the driver liable for prosecution.

Chelmsford City Council agreed that a clerical error had ensued and allowed the relieved cabbie to keep his licence.
