CityFleet retains Taxicard contract

CityFleet has retained the Taxicard contract for London according to sources close to TaxiPoint. 

The company, which is owned by Comfort Delgro, beat off stiff competition from both Gett and Addison Lee to win the contract up for tender.

Transport solutions company CityFleet supply taxis to service the Taxicard scheme via ComCab as well as supplementing the taxi fleet with private hire vehicles.

Earlier this year the service was under threat until London mayor Sadiq Khan decided that he will not make cuts to the Taxicard service offered in the capital as first proposed. Khan was challenged from all quarters in regards to proposals to dramatically reduce the monies set aside for the much relied on service. The London Taxicard scheme provides subsidised door to door journeys in licensed taxis and private hire vehicles for London residents who have serious mobility or visual impairments. London Councils secured an agreement with Transport for London to ensure funding for the Taxicard scheme is not reduced in 2018-19. Taxicard will continue to receive the same level of funding from TfL as it did the previous year plus any increases needed to cover taxi fare rises. It is funded by the London boroughs and TfL and managed by London Councils on their behalf. At the time Cllr Julian Bell, Chair of London Councils' Transport and Environment Committee, said: “We are delighted that we have secured this commitment on behalf of London’s Taxicard users and our member boroughs. “TfL’s proposal to cut their funding contribution to the Taxicard scheme would have had a significant impact on the level of subsidy offered, limiting people’s ability to travel in and around the capital. “Now we know that TfL’s Taxicard’s budget will be maintained in 2018-19, we can focus on ensuring the scheme works in the best possible way for users and our member boroughs.”
