Black Taxi driver dies in horror crash after a vehicle drove the wrong way along the A13

Two people have died, one a black taxi driver, in a collision on the A13, police have confirmed. A driver was travelling on the eastbound carriageway in the wrong direction when it collided with a taxi, believed to be a London black cab. Emergency services, including paramedics, the Fire Brigade and police, rushed to the incident, which happened at around 1.45am today (Monday, December 31), took place at the Witch's Hat junction of the A13 near Dagenham. Reports suggest it was a head-on collision and despite the best efforts of the emergency services, two people have died as a result of their injuries. As reported by Essex Live, the victims are a woman in her 70s - the driver of the car travelling in the wrong direction - and the taxi driver, aged in his 40s.

Police were called to reports of a car driving the wrong way on the A13 but were unable to intercept before the fatal collision happened.

The road has been closed for six hours as emergency services deal with the incident.

It will remain shut for investigation and recovery work to take place.
