Man denied sevice by minicab company due to medical condition

Steve Kenton

A man has been denied service from a minicab company due to a medical condition which renders him unable to control odours from permeating from his body.

52 year old Stephen Davis, who suffers from a bacterial skin infection, was banned from using Andy's Cars in Gloucestershire after drivers complained of him being "smelly."

Mr Davis explained that as a diabetes and cellulitis sufferer, he has to attend his GP three times a week to have dressings changed.

He went on to explain  that because of his afflictions, if the dressings are changed on a Friday they could become a little pungent by Monday.

After arriving home last Monday Mr Davis received a voicemail message from Andy's Cars stating that they would no longer pick him up.

After calling Andys Cars it was then explained to him that because of his personal hygiene they would no longer be prepared to take him

As a result of the ban Mr Davis has lodged a complaint with Gloucester City Council over his treatment.

Gloucester City Council have stated that there is nothing either in law or within the current council licensing policy that requires that a Private Hire Operator to accept a fare. Mr Davis is now using an alternative company to get him to his GP appointments.
