Merseyside Police said a private hire vehicle was stopped after it was seen driving erratically on the M62, and the driver’s taxi licence was suspended.

The Roads Policing Unit said the vehicle was seen tailgating, weaving between lanes and travelling at excess speed, with a marked police car behind it.

Officers stopped the vehicle and reported the driver, who Merseyside Police said had their taxi licence suspended. The force did not give further details about the driver, the licensing authority or any additional action taken.

The incident highlights the potential licensing consequences of unsafe driving by private hire drivers, alongside any road traffic enforcement that may follow.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “This private hire vehicle was seen driving erratically on the M62, tailgating, weaving, and at excess speed, all with a marked Police vehicle behind it. Vehicle stopped and the unhappy driver was reported, and had their taxi licence suspended.”
