British taxi drivers receive the highest tips of all European taxi drivers says study
Where would we be without tips?!
British taxi drivers receive the highest tips of all European taxi drivers. On average, British drivers receive £7.17 in tips. This is the result of research carried out by online taxi platform Taxi2Airport, which asked more than 2,500 connected cab drivers in 37 European countries to keep track of their tips.
Of all the countries surveyed, travellers in the United Kingdom give, on average, the highest tips in British taxis. On average, taxi drivers in the UK receive £7.17 tip. Finns (£6.64), Swiss (£6.39) and Swedish (£6.35) also receive relatively high tips from their passengers. Of all countries surveyed, taxi drivers in Macedonia are the least fortunate when it comes to tips. The average tip in Macedonia is, with 89p, the lowest. Russia and Georgia (95p), Bosnia & Herzegovina (£1.13) and Serbia (£1.33) fill the top 5 of countries where taxi tips are lowest.
Taxi2Airport carried out the research in the following countries: United Kingdom, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal, Norway, Hungary, Luxembourg, Turkey, Estonia, Iceland, Greece, Malta, Ireland, Bulgaria, Czechia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Belarus, Italy, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Russia, Macedonia.
60 taxi drivers per country were asked to keep track of the tips given in the period February 2018 through September 2018. In total, tens of thousands of taxi rides to and from the airport were analysed. The complete research, including an overview of the average tips in all European countries, can be found here.
