Inverness cabbie may have had medical issue before fatal crash

Steve Kenton

A cabbie who died after crashing his vehicle  may have become unwell moments before the accident in the Highlands, a sheriff has said.

63 year old Evan Cameron's taxi ploughed through a bridge parapet on the B9176 Struie road near Ardgay and fell on to the rocks below.

Mr Cameron, who was from Inverness, was the sole occupant of the vehicle involved in the accident, which happened last year.

At the ensuing accident enquiry, Sheriff Christopher Dickson said Mr Cameron may have had a "medical episode".

It was revealed by Sheriff Dickson that Mr Cameron was a sufferer of emphysema.

Sheriff Dickson determined that the injuries Mr Cameron sustained in the crash were the likely cause of his death.

The sheriff extended his condolences to Mr Cameron's family.
