Lord Winston calls for all cyclists to display licence plates after being repeatedly kicked by ‘abus

Well known TV presenter and Scientist Lord Winston has called for all cyclists to display licence plates after being repeatedly kicked by an ‘abusive’ woman who was riding on the pavement. The much respected pioneer in IVF research told The Times newspaper he had been repeatedly kicked by the cyclist when he pulled her up for for riding on the pavement in the Bloomsbury, London on Wednesday.

Lord Winston said the cyclist became “abusive” and tried to snatch the 78-year-olds mobile phone after he politely pointed out she was breaking the law. “I went up to her and told her very politely that it was against the law to cycle on the pavement and it was dangerous,” “I thought she would apologise and walk off but she became very aggressive and was swearing… She then kicked me repeatedly.” “The requirement for number plates would mean cyclists who are blatantly breaking the law can be identified” Lord Winston who had to be helped by passers-by coming to his aid told The Times he did not reported the incident to the police because it would be “impossible to identify the cyclist”. “The requirement for number plates would mean cyclists who are blatantly breaking the law can be identified,” he said adding he was now considering introducing a private members’ bill to force cyclists to have licence plates.
