Merseyside Police appeal for help following fatal private hire cab collision

Merseyside Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in West Derby in the early hours on Saturday 29 June.  At around 1am, emergency services were called to Princess Drive to reports of a serious collision involving a Ford Fiesta and Ford S-Max private hire taxi. A local man in his 20s, a passenger from the Fiesta, was confirmed dead. A 19-year-old woman from the same car was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

A 25-year-old man, driver of the Ford Fiesta, was arrested at the scene but later taken to hospital for treatment.

Two male occupants from the S-Max were treated at the scene for slight injuries. The next of kin of those involved are in the process of being informed and enquiries are underway to establish the full circumstances. CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries are continuing. The road has now been reopened and both vehicles recovered. Roads Policing Sergeant Ged Farley said: "This is clearly a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life and others have been injured. Specialist officers will be supporting the victim's family and all of those affected as we seek to discover exactly what happened. "We know that people saw or heard this collision and at this early stage, we want to speak to all of them, including anyone who was passing by at the time or immediately before, and could have captured vital evidence on vehicle dashcam or home CCTV." Anyone with information can DM our social media desk @MerPolCC, call 101 with reference 70 of 29 June, or pass information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
