Gang of kids on bikes cause Tamworth taxi to be written off

A taxi driver has said that his cab had to be written off because of a crash caused by a gang of children on bikes.

Black cab driver, David Poole, said his taxi was hit by the vehicle behind after he was forced to perform an emergency stop as the kids cycled into the road from the pavement, resulting in both vehicles being written off in the collision.  

The accident happened  in Albert Road, Tamworth, on Saturday 29 June.

74 year old Mr Poole was believed to be travelling at around 10mph, when 16 kids on bikes shot out in front of him.

Mr Poole was forced to slam on his brakes to avoid colliding with the kids, but the vehicle behind was unable to react in time and hit Mr Poole's cab.

The shaken cabbie told Birmingham Live that the kids then rode down Marmion Street and nearly caused an accident with a double decker bus. 

Bus bosses have stated that they are also aware of problems being caused by youngsters on bikes. 

Fortunately there were no reported injuries in the incident.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “Officers from the Tamworth Neighbourhood Policing Team are aware of this issue and are working with schools to educate young people on road and bicycle safety.”
