Petition delivered to London Mayor’s office calling for Uber licence NOT to be renewed

London’s taxi drivers have delivered a petition to the London Mayor’s office calling for Uber’s operator’s licence NOT to be renewed. Industry representatives Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association (LTDA) ran the campaign to highlight what they say is the ‘true cost of Uber’. Drivers and members of the public were encouraged to send a lettter to the London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, detailing the reasons for a non-renewal.
As a result, over 3,000 letters of support for the campaign was delivered to City Hall today.
Uber are currently waiting to see whether Transport for London, overseen by the Mayor’s office, will grant them a new licence in the capital before it expires on Wednesday.
London Assembly Member, Keith Prince, helped deliver the petition with the LTDA’s General Secretary Steve McNamara.
An LTDA spokesperson on Twitter said: “Thanks to your overwhelming support in the last 24 hours, we have sent another 1,000 letters to the Mayor of London asking him to ban Uber once its probationary licence expires next week.
“The Mayor must listen to the serious concerns of over 3,000 Londoners.”
Keith Prince AM also Tweeted saying: “Pleased to have been asked to help present this LTDA petition calling on Sadiq Khan not to renew Uber’s licence. Let’s hope he makes the right decision.”
