Appeal launched after fatal Edinburgh crash involving taxi and cyclist near Kirknewton

Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision involving a taxi, a car and a cyclist on the A70 near Kirknewton, Edinburgh.
The crash happened shortly before 11.35pm on Friday 2 May. It involved a blue Skoda Octavia, a black Mercedes Vito taxi and a bicycle, near the junction with the B7031.
The 46-year-old man driving the Skoda was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services. The taxi driver was taken to hospital and has since been discharged. The cyclist involved was not injured and did not require hospital treatment.
The A70 was closed overnight for crash investigation work and reopened at around 9am on Saturday 3 May.
Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash, to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 4689 of Friday 2 May 2025.
Sergeant Grant Hastie said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died.
"Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
"We are particularly keen to trace a second taxi driver who may have witnessed this crash.
"Anyone with relevant dash-cam footage is also asked to contact police."
