Conservative General London Assembly Member, Susan Hall, has been left furious after finding out that Heathrow Airport are set to increase taxi pick-up fees to over £10 in light of the global pandemic.

The plans mean taxi drivers could be forced to pay £10.04, a huge £6.44 rise from the current £3.60 paid by drivers, as the airport attempts to claw back substantial losses due to COVID-19.

It is understood that the airport wishes to recover the £1.4million lost due to the pandemic over a two year period.

Fully wheelchair accessible licensed black cabs offering their services at one of the world’s biggest airports will have to pay over £10 to join the ‘Feeder Park’ rank at Heathrow from 1 July. According to sources, it is unlikely the increase will be passed onto passengers, meaning struggling cabbies will have to cover the extra costs.

Speaking of the announcement, Susan Hall said: “I am furious that at every turn things are being made even more difficult for our iconic Black Cab drivers. They have been through a torrid time over the last year and quite frankly need help. This additional charge will dissuade more of them from ferrying visitors around London. Once lost we will never regain this wonderful trade.”
