Autocab has appointed former Uber executive Frans Hiemstra as its new chief executive, as the taxi software provider looks to accelerate its international expansion.
Hiemstra will take over from Safa Alkateb, who has led the Manchester-based business since 2012 and will step down in June to pursue a new opportunity. The incoming CEO brings around a decade of experience working across global taxi, fleet and private hire vehicle markets during his time at Uber.
The leadership change comes as Autocab seeks to build on its position supporting independent taxi operators worldwide. The company provides booking and dispatch software designed to help firms increase passenger numbers, retain drivers and reduce operating costs.
Founded in 1989, Autocab now operates in more than 30 countries, offering a range of technology solutions aimed at improving fleet efficiency and profitability. Its platform enables taxi businesses to access additional revenue streams and compete more effectively in increasingly digital and app-driven markets.

The appointment of Hiemstra signals a continued focus on scaling these capabilities internationally, with the company indicating it will maintain investment in its technology platform to expand its reach among operators.
Alkateb’s departure marks the end of more than a decade of leadership during which Autocab grew its global footprint and strengthened its position within the taxi and private hire software sector.
Frans Hiemstra, CEO, Autocab, said: “Autocab is a brilliant independent British business, and I’m delighted to now be part of that team. Over the last 10 years, I’ve had the chance to work across a number of markets and business models in the taxi, fleet and Private Hire sectors, and have seen first-hand how transformative Autocab’s technology can be. I couldn’t be more excited to work with the team to help drive Autocab’s continued growth. There’s a strong opportunity ahead to invest in Autocab as we work to help even more independent taxi companies across the world scale and grow.”
Safa Alkateb, outgoing CEO, Autocab, said: “After a wonderful 14 years at Autocab, I have decided to leave at the end of June to explore a new challenge. Autocab has grown from an ambitious young business into a company that genuinely shapes our industry. I’m delighted to see Frans stepping into the role of CEO and wish him every success as he takes Autocab forward. With a strong foundation in place, I know the business will continue to thrive, maintaining the continuity and stability we’ve worked so hard to build.”
