Birmingham man arrested after taxi driver injured and cab attempted to be stolen

In Birmingham, a taxi driver sustained injuries and his vehicle was damaged following an attempted robbery of the vehicle.


According to a West Midlands Police spokesperson, the trouble began when an altercation escalated, culminating in an attempt by an individual to steal the taxi.

The police were quick to respond to the incident, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old man on charges of attempted robbery.


The incident has raised concerns within the local taxi community, highlighting the risks drivers face while on duty.


A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “In Birmingham, a taxi was damaged and the driver was injured. During an altercation, a man attempted to drive off in the taxi.


“A man, aged 24, was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery.”


They added: “Reducing offences of robbery is a force priority here in the West Midlands and we are running Operation Ruby to tackle those committing crime.


“We are also working hard to spread crime prevention messaging across the region so people can take all reasonable steps possible to help keep themselves and their belongings safe.”
