Black taxi London tour guides revving up for July return as COVID-19 lockdown eases

Black taxi tour operators have announced their intentions to bounce back from the COVID-19 lockdown in July as measures begin to ease.

Licensed taxi tour guide specialists, Black Cab Heritage Tours (BCHT), plan to return offering a limited number of tour options from Saturday 4 July to couples and small family groups in the UK.

Whilst the tour group admits it may be some time before guests arrive from overseas, BCHT are hoping UK visitors to the capital will surge. As people look to celebrate birthdays or other special occasions, the isolated tour environment might be seen as a safe and perfect opportunity to get out and see London.

The UK government recently announced a 14-day self-quarantine period which will remain in place for inbound tourists, but BCHT are confident tourism will return in the future.

Rob Woodford, a black cab tour operator and Director at BCHT, said: “The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has impacted on our industry – but tourism always bounces back!”

“Plenty of brainstorming has been going on between us, and we are putting together some amazing and diverse tour activities that will have local appeal.” He added. “Travellers can feel confident that panoramic sightseeing is conducted from the cleanest and safest form of transport – the London Black Cab.”

Some of the safety measures put in place by BCHT for future tour activities include:

  • All vehicles are sanitised with disinfectant cleaned by their owner drivers immediately after each service

  • The transparent partition screen provides a unique private passenger compartment for the passengers

  • A safe distance exists between guests and their Driver Guide hosts – exceeding the current minimum 2 metres set by government guidelines

  • The passenger compartment has a separately controlled air-conditioning system

  • Presentation stops will be conducted in quiet open air locations – away from crowded hotspots

  • Driver Guide hosts shall wash and sanitise their hands on a frequent basis throughout each service

  • Hand sanisters will be available to all of our guests at all times while on tour.
