To mark Zero Emissions Day today (21 September) and London Car Free Day tomorrow, the on-demand transportation platform Bolt introduces a new transportation-type 'Bolt Walk'.

Users of the ride-sharing company will be presented with the offer of walking rather than booking a ride when they open the riders' app.

Bolt said they will be encouraging walking for two days in a bid to help with lowering emissions in the capital.

Car Free Day was due to be held on Tuesday 22 September, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was cancelled. The day is still being considered as London's Car Free Day with commuters being encouraged to either walk or cycle.

Sam Raciti, Bolt’s UK Country Manager, said: “At Bolt, we endorse people to choose more sustainable ways of moving around, especially for shorter trips. This campaign stands for a reminder that walking remains the healthiest option for riders and for the environment. However, if you need a quick ride, our carbon neutral Bolt drivers are still available.

"The symbolic category dubbed “Bolt Walk” will be added to the app for two days to nudge users to choose greener options for daily commuting."
