British Transport Police (BTP) has issued an update following an incident involving two elderly Sikh taxi drivers outside Wolverhampton railway station on 15 August.
Superintendent Sue Peters, local policing commander for the Midlands railways, confirmed that officers made three arrests shortly after a 999 call was made. An off-duty BTP Chief Inspector also stopped to assist. Those arrested were a 17-year-old boy and two men aged 19 and 25. All three were taken into custody and later released on bail. The incident is being treated as racially aggravated.
Police have confirmed that a full investigation is ongoing. CCTV footage, witness statements and social media enquiries are being reviewed. A small number of officers sustained minor injuries during the arrests.
Statements from both victims are being taken, with one already provided and the second arranged for 19 August. BTP said the timing was due to the men’s injuries and the families’ wishes, rather than any resourcing issue.
The force added that it is engaging with the local MP, the Sikh community and the Sikh Police Association as enquiries continue.
Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to text 61016 quoting reference 353 of 15 August.
