A new campaign aimed at encouraging greater public use of licensed London taxis has been launched by London Taxi PR.
The initiative, named ‘Choose Taxi’, comes as a response to recent media coverage wrongly suggesting the decline of the capital’s iconic black cab trade. The campaign hopes to connect with customers and promote engagement in a light-hearted and accessible way, while helping to drive work back towards cab drivers.
As part of the promotion, London Taxi PR has released retro-style T-shirts bearing the ‘Choose Taxi’ slogan. The design draws inspiration from the 1980s and mimics the well-known ‘Choose Life’ shirts worn by Wham, adding a familiar visual element to help catch public attention. The hashtag #ChooseTaxi will accompany campaign content across social media channels.
The campaign launch was supported by writer and journalist Tony Parsons, a known supporter of the trade, alongside Centreforce Radio, who showcased the campaign shirts.
London Taxi PR’s campaigns continue to be entirely funded by drivers and businesses from within the taxi industry. Many of those backing the cause have committed to monthly donations to ensure the ongoing visibility and promotion of the trade.
Andy Scott, PR and Communications spokesperson for London Taxi PR, said: “Anyone that sees the T-shirts and the slogan will be reminded of that design, and we wanted to keep it simple but also make it stand out and be something that everyone across the profession can hopefully get on board with, as we all want to encourage more people to use London Taxis.
“To help promote the campaign we have had a number of banner advertisements designed and are also in the middle of negotiating a six-month commercial radio deal which will hopefully help to spread the word.”
Scott added: “We hope more celebrities will endorse the campaign, and also that those within the profession, the drivers, fleet owners, Shelter keepers etc will also get on board and help create a buzz about it. And yes the T-shirts are for sale to anyone who wants one, just drop us a line and we will get back to you with all the relevant details.”
