DBS Update Service payment failures prompt calls for direct debit option in taxi licensing

Frequent driver suspensions in Wolverhampton have raised concerns about the payment model used by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Update Service, with local licensing officers calling for a direct debit option to replace the current card payment system.


Under current licensing conditions, drivers are required to maintain continuous subscription to the DBS Update Service throughout the life of their licence. This enables all licensing authorities to carry out regular checks on criminal records, providing real-time safeguarding oversight.
