Uber to remove Share from UberX after GMB members raise concerns

Uber will remove its Share product from UberX in October after GMB members raised concerns about how shared journeys worked, according to a the union.
GMB said members had been reporting concerns to its national representatives since the product launched in June 2025. The union said their feedback was raised regularly at quarterly meetings with Uber.
Issues included the potential for disputes between passengers and cases where passengers refused to travel with people accompanied by support animals, GMB said.
Members also raised concerns about changes to the “decline” option and what the union described as drivers ultimately being unable to opt out of Share.
GMB said the concerns had “contributed to Uber’s decision to withdraw this product”. The notice did not provide further detail about the removal or specify the date in October when it would take effect.
The union thanked members for their feedback, saying it was “highly unlikely that this decision would have been taken without your input”. It said member engagement had enabled representatives to keep raising the issues with Uber over the past months.
GMB’s National Uber Representatives said: “We are pleased to report that Uber will be removing the Share product from UberX in October. From the outset in June last year, members were reporting their concerns and feedback to GMB National Reps.
“They raised issues ranging from potential disputes between multiple passengers, passengers refusing to share rides with support animals, changes to the 'decline' option and ultimately not being able to opt out of Share.
“These issues were raised at our quarterly meetings with Uber and has contributed to Uber's decision to withdraw this product.
“Your GMB National Reps want to thank members for your consistent feedback so that they were able to raise regularly with Uber over the past months. It is highly unlikely that this decision would have been taken without your input that is why your feedback and engagement with Reps is crucial.”
