‘DO NOT HAND HIM YOUR PHONE’: South west taxi drivers warned over £300 mobile phone payment fraud allegation

Taxi drivers have been urged to remain alert after an individual was reported to police on suspicion of defrauding a driver out of £300.
PC Patrick Quinton, Taxi Cop for Avon and Somerset Police, circulated an image of the person to hackney carriage drivers as part of the warning. The individual is suspected to have information in the alleged fraud.
Quinton warned drivers in the message: “Please be aware, and do not hand him your mobile phone for payment.”
The warning suggests the alleged incident involved the driver handing over their mobile phone during a payment process. No further details have been released about how the reported £300 loss occurred.
The police message carries reference number 5226253468. Drivers with information relevant to the allegation should use that reference when contacting Avon and Somerset Police.
