Drive Taxis rebrands to Veezu as part of York regional rollout

Drive Taxis, York’s largest private hire operator, has completed its rebrand to Veezu following its acquisition by the Veezu Group in October 2024. The move is part of a wider strategy to standardise the service across Yorkshire, with Hull and Doncaster already undergoing the same transition.
Veezu, now operating in over 50 locations across the UK, partners with more than 16,000 driver-partners. The rebrand marks a step towards a more unified service offering across the region, supporting Veezu’s position as the UK’s leading private hire technology firm.
Drive entered the York market in 2022 after taking over 659 Taxis. Since then, it has grown to become the largest independent private hire firm in Yorkshire, expanding on earlier operations in Hull and Doncaster. The new Veezu branding brings York in line with the group’s national identity, aiming to provide a consistent and more connected service for passengers.
For customers in York, the day-to-day service remains the same, but now with access to added digital features. The Veezu app offers real-time tracking, an improved address search function and several payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, card and cash. The ability to pre-book also continues, adding flexibility for passengers.
The rebrand supports the City of York Council’s wider transport strategy, which focuses on cleaner air and better-connected communities. Veezu’s model helps supplement existing transport links, offering an on-demand option suitable for a wide range of users, including students, shift workers, tourists and older residents. Ongoing investment in low-emission vehicles and smart ride technology is expected to contribute to the city’s transport goals.
