Preparations are underway for the London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children’s annual trip to Hertfordshire Zoo, with just over a month remaining until the event.
Scheduled for 9 July 2025, the event will see over 100 children with special needs transported from the Isle of Dogs to Hertfordshire Zoo in a convoy of black cabs. The journey begins with breakfast at the ASDA car park on the Isle of Dogs, where drivers and children will gather before heading north for a full day of activities.
Now in its 97th year, the charity is once again calling on licensed taxi drivers to volunteer their time for the day. Volunteer drivers will be provided with breakfast, lunch at the zoo, refreshments and reimbursement for fuel costs.
The trip is a long-standing tradition and remains one of the charity’s major events. It is organised and run entirely by volunteer drivers who continue to support children with special needs across the capital.
Those wishing to take part as a driver can email info@ltcfc.org.uk, or visit the charity’s website at ltcfc.org.uk.
Tony Moore, Chairman of the LTCFC, said the zoo outings offer a rare opportunity for children who might otherwise not be able to attend such event: "Our zoo trips create lasting memories for children who might otherwise miss out on such experiences.
"The joy on the children's faces makes it all worthwhile for our dedicated volunteer drivers."
