A private hire driver has been arrested after allegedly testing positive for cocaine during a roadside stop carried out by Merseyside Police’s Roads Policing Unit.
According to a post published by the force on social media, officers stopped the private hire vehicle for a routine document check in the Knowsley area on Saturday 1 August.
During the stop, the driver admitted to recent cocaine use before undergoing a roadside drug screening test. Police said the driver subsequently tested positive for cocaine and was arrested.
Merseyside Police’s Roads Policing Unit said: “This private hire vehicle was stopped for a documents check in the Knowsley area. The driver admitted recent cocaine use and tested positive at the roadside. Arrested.”
Any driver found to be over the legal drug-driving limit faces a criminal investigation and could also face action from their licensing authority, including suspension or revocation of their private hire driver’s licence.
