A Sefton-licensed private hire driver is set to face legal action after Liverpool City Council enforcement officers identified multiple alleged offences during a recent operation on Blackstone Street.
According to a statement shared by Liverpool City Council Licensing, the driver was found operating without a booking, carrying additional passengers and allegedly attempting to avoid detection. Officers confirmed that a summons will be prepared.
In a post on social media platform X, the authority said: “No booking, extra passengers, and hoping no one notices, unfortunately for one Sefton PHV driver at a recent event on Blackstone Street, our officers noticed. Summons to be prepared for offences.”
The council outlined the suspected breaches as serious licensing offences, including plying for hire, operating without valid insurance and carrying excess passengers.

These offences are considered significant within the private hire sector due to the potential risks to passenger safety and regulatory compliance.
Private hire vehicles must be pre-booked through a licensed operator and are not permitted to pick up passengers directly from the street, unlike hackney carriages. Operating outside these rules can result in prosecution, fines or licence revocation.
The enforcement activity forms part of ongoing compliance checks carried out by Liverpool City Council, particularly during busy events where demand for transport increases and the risk of illegal activity can rise.
