Compliance Officers from the City of Wolverhampton Council joined forces with Greater Manchester Police and Licensing teams from Manchester, Salford, Sefton, and Liverpool Councils to conduct thorough checks on licensed private hire vehicles (PHV) at Manchester Airport.

The presence of officers from various councils highlights the complexities of cross-border hire rules. These regulations allow licensed vehicles from one area to operate in another, provided they comply with specific requirements. The coordinated effort ensures that vehicles meet safety and legal standards, regardless of where they are licensed.

This initiative aims to maintain high standards across regions and protect public safety.

Compliance checks, both within and outside of an authority's licensing area, are crucial in verifying that all vehicles are fit for purpose and drivers adhere to licensing conditions.

A City of Wolverhampton Council Public Protection spokesperson said: “Compliance Officers, in partnership with Greater Manchester Police and Licensing colleagues from Manchester, Salford, Sefton and Liverpool Councils, were at Manchester Airport yesterday, carrying out compliance checks on licensed vehicles.”
