Multiple road safety issues has forced enforcement officers to suspend FIVE taxi driver's licences in Bradford after a day of checks.

Yesterday marked the beginning of Road Safety Week. West Yorkshire Police (WYP) announced plans to run a number of operations across West Yorkshire this week, in addition to their daily focus on reducing the number of fatal and serious collisions in the area.

Day one of the campaign saw police officers working with Bradford Council licensing officers. While ‘numerous’ taxis were stopped and handed the green light to continue working, five taxi drivers were given suspensions for ‘various offences’.

A WYP Roads Policing Unit spokesperson said: “Started this afternoon in Bradford, working with Bradford Council Taxi Licensing, where we identified numerous road safety issues resulting in five drivers having their permits suspended for various offences, numerous others stopped and found to be safe and lawful though!”
