Four people killed and five injured in Bolton crash involving taxi and car

Four people have died following a serious road traffic collision involving a taxi and a private car on Wigan Road in Bolton during the early hours of Sunday 11 January, according to emergency service sources.
Police said officers were called at around 12.45am after a red Seat Leon collided with a Citroen C4 Picasso. The driver of the Seat Leon and two passengers were pronounced dead following the collision, while the driver of the Citroen was also confirmed dead at the scene.
Five further passengers were injured and taken to hospital, where they continue to receive treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
The force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said a cordon remains in place on Wigan Road while enquiries continue, with officers appealing for witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. Investigators are also seeking information about the movements of the vehicles prior to the collision.

In a separate statement, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it deployed three fire engines and a technical response unit to the incident shortly after 12.50am. Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to remove occupants from the vehicles before handing them over to paramedics.
North West Ambulance Service treated the injured at the scene, while police established a safety cordon and managed road closures. Fire crews remained in attendance for approximately two hours.
